The Ridiculous Games Contest is really just the Terrible Game Contest renamed, and continued to be hosted by Fenrir-Lunaris. While the first one or two Terrible Games contests indeed focused on making terrible games, the actual focus of the contest quickly switched to other avenues. In particular the winner of the first TGC, Final Fantasi XXX, was hard to outdo in terribleness. Some contestants wanted the contest renamed to discourage bad entries.

2009 and earlier years[edit]

See Terrible Game Contests.

2010[edit]

Ran from Apr 1 - Apr 30.

Entries (by placing)[edit]

2012[edit]

Ran from Mar 28 - Apr 30, and had a complicated ruleset, whereby contestants could compete according to rules handed down by any of seven infamous OHR villians. Entries were scored in a complicated way which incorporated scores by both community members, and by three judges (Surlaw, Gizmog, and James) who rating games on theme and quality, as well as bonus points. This contest was also remarkable for the three games/movies Fenrir created to introduce the contest and present the results. Charbile's My Little Gahn built directly on top of the Rules .rpg file.

Entries[edit]

2019[edit]

Ran from March 1st to March 31st, with entries being submitted from March 24th to March 31st. In contrast to the previous contest, the rules were remarkably straightforward.

As per tradition, idontknow made a game announcing the start of the contest, but this time there was also a website!

2020[edit]

Officially ran from March 1st to March 31st, but everyone started before then. As fitting for the engine's 22nd anniversary, entrants were expected to adhere to the various limits the OHR had before 2000, as well as use a maximum of 4 maps. Actually using a DOS version of the engine was encouraged but not expected.

Entrants were also ranked by two metrics - how good they were, and how close they were to the average OHR game of the time.
