Alien Squatter is a commercial game made with the OHRRPGCE, released by Willy Elektrix and sheamkennedy in 2019.

Plot[edit]

On a futuristic earth planet, an alien inhabitant has to fight its way through the tough life in the slums. There are many other characters to interact with and get help from. Which is definetly needed, as daily dangers appear like organ sellers or hostile pigeons (to name a few). Eventually, the squatters' goal is to get out of the slums, to live in "Privilege", a wealthy city behind a guarded gate. A fake ID card is one option to get there, but many more exist.

Technical[edit]

The outcome of conflicts in the game is entirely decided by percentage numbers that are calculated from the character's stats (Physical, Mental, Social). At the beginning of every game, the player has to decide for a strong and a weak stat. This leads to different activites, where the character is good or bad at (like fighting, thinking or interacting). These game mechanics were implemented very simmilarly in Void Pyramid, also by Willy Elektrix.

For the maps, more than the (former) default 160 tiles per tileset were used. This was done by using additional map layers, which contain each a complete part of the map instead of a puzzle of tiles. Like that, it was easier to edit the big map as a whole, although a few Kilobytes were wasted for redundant tiles.

Reception[edit]

As one of few OHRRPGCE games, Alien Squatter got featured in online magazines (which means something). Before that, the OHRRPGCE community was widely involved in helping to fix bugs while getting to play the game for free. Even at the point, where Alien Squatter wasn't offically released on Steam, it appeared on the 2019 Top 30 list in 13th spot.
