How do I convert BAM and MIDI music to MP3?
Record it! Use a cable with a headphone jack on each side:
Connect the microphone audio input to the audio output. To make sure, that everything works by default, plug a microphone in and test, whether any sound arrives at your computer.
Open a recording program. Maybe Audacity? Everything can be immediately edited there and it's open-source. Also open OHRRPGCE's Custom.exe.
Press the record in the music program. Meanwhile, switch back to Custom.exe, go to the music part, let the music play through twice. Therefore it's important to know the length of the song. Why twice? Because you may want to make the song loop properly. There might be some notes at the end of the MIDI or BAM song, that keep sounding over into the beginning of the repeated playthrough.
Beware that different sound cards produce different results. And it also depends a lot on general audio settings.
Why the hassle?[edit]
Because BAM and MIDI are the way, how the early OHRRPGCE games sounded. It's a unique feel, and definetly is part of their cheesyness. However the big problem with BAM and MIDI is, that the music sounds different on every computer, depending on the Synth FM chip on the sound card in use. The inconsistency is that huge, that some sound cards can destroy a good game by killing its music (really. it was that terrible with MIDI and BAM). Recorded formats like MP3, OGG and WAV sound more or less equal on every computer, but use far more hard drive space, too.
