Chronoboy: An idea would be for James to add a Secret Question/Answer to the RPG file, which can be used if one forgets their password. Say a new very small program called RESETPASSWD.EXE, which basically read the GEN lump for the Secret Question/Answer and allows the user to change their password if forgotten.

Removing password feature, and another way to avoid it[edit]

It is not only James that hate the password system; I also do. MegaZeux also used to have a password system (although you could set a password to play game in addition to editing password), but that feature has already been removed from MegaZeux many years ago. If you load a passworded file in MegaZeux, it will warn you first but then will load it anyways without requiring a password; if it is then saved, the password is eliminated. Due to the difference in OHRRPGCE, it would be easier to remove in OHRRPGCE than in MegaZeux, I think. Also, another way to easily unpassword an existing OHRRPGCE file is to use a hex editor to remove the password from the GEN lump, which should be easily enough for anyone who read the documentation, to do. --Zzo38 (talk) 15:27, 22 October 2021 (PDT)

People still email from time to time to have their passwords reset, and I worry how many people don't bother to email. Maybe we could have a self-reset feature (taking inspiration from Chronoboy), such as if you wait 10 minutes or perform an annoying task like typing in a block of text you can get through without the password, similar to the existing annoyance of using a hex editor. Or that you can open the file but not save it without the password. Here's an especially amusing annoying task: "Use this builtin hex editor to edit the bytes at (offset)." Complete with unintuitive keys you have to read the documentation for. We could ask people what they want on the forums. --TMC (talk) 17:47, 22 October 2021 (PDT)
