Bob the Hamster 23:56, 8 May 2011 (PDT): you can make .dmg files on Linux using mkfs.hfsplus however IIRC, you cannot make compressed .dmg files, and having them uncompressed largely defeats the purpose of using them as distribution packages. :(

The Mad Cacti: Wow, how did I miss that. But what's interesting is that .dmg can apparently actually contain any filesystem, it is not tied to HFS+, so I did not expect this to be a mkfs.hfsplus capability.
