Why does my script take hours to compile?

On a modern computer, your scripts should only take a few seconds at most to compile, unless your script files are gigantic. The largest scripts of any OHRRPGCE game take about 15 seconds to compile on a decent computer. Over the years the HSpeak compiler has become more and more optimised and computers have gotten faster.

Still, users of old hardware don't need to scale down their projects. A Pentium 3 of 2001 with Windows XP can compile 16000 lines of code (as displayed in HSpeak) in 4 seconds. However the same setup with Windows 98 needs 81 seconds... ah, teatime!

So if your scripts take more a few seconds to compile and they aren't gigantic and your computer isn't ancient, please report a bug.
