Random Collab Contests
In the Random Collab contest, contestants, who sign up individually, get randomly paired up at the beginning of the the contest making period and have to agree to what game to make and how to split up the work. No theme or other requirements are provided. The central attraction of the contest is that you get paired up with someone you wouldn't normally work with; a highly unpredictable and novel experience. The contest is loved by some, while others have sworn off it after bad experiences. It has been hosted every year since 2011 by Spoonweaver, who always deliberately misspells it as "Random Colab".
2021[edit]
In 2021 the contest is back in a new format under the name Spring OHR Open Collab. Entrants sign up as an artist, scripter, or helper and one of each is randomly placed into three-person teams. The two week window is March 20th to April 5th.
There are four teams, 12 entrants in total.
2015[edit]
Originally planned to start Feb 1st, the contest was delayed. Signup finally started on May 31st. Initially the contest was going to run for two weeks, but part way through Spoonweaver made a surprise announcement to extend the deadline to a month from the start (which he admitted had always been planned). So the contest ran June 15th to July 14th.
James and Gizmog entered a game after beginning a collaboration from the beginning of the contest, although they didn't sign up (and therefore weren't randomly paired, although this was counted as an entry).
- (No entry) TMC & Ichiro
- Phlan Pheonix & Spoonweaver
- (No entry) bmr & marionline
- Devs Like Waffles James & Gizmog (did not sign up)
2014[edit]
Officially the OFFICIAL OHRRPGCE RANDOM COLAB CONTEST, this ran for two weeks from February 15th 2014 to March 1st 2014, after being postponed half a year. Four games were submitted by 5 teams, all of which were heavily scripted.
The first prize was every contestant having to draw fanart of the winning game and hype it up elsewhere. Non-contestants also offered to draw fanart. Unfortunately, almost no one delivered.
