Jessica: What is the difference between poison and regen? If I set a poison attack to 'cure instead of harm', would it be the same as a regen attack?

Bob the Hamster: There is a poison register. By damaging the poison register, you cause your hero to be poisoned. By using a cure-instead-of-harm attack that targets the poison register, you are curing previous damage done to the poison register-- in effect undoing the poisoning. But the poison register cannot go negative. You cannot have anti-poison which cures you, which is why the regen register is a totally separate target stat.
