Will you ever update the map editor?

Yes; the map editor has been significantly improved in various new versions.

We welcome any suggestions for further improvements to the map editor interface. Current suggestions include placing multiple tiles at once (Bug #250) and the ability to type in x and y coordinates (Bug #114). Better and longer tile animation patterns is a particular much-desired feature.
